B words to describe me, Ilene?? Well I'm rather fond of b*stard,
myself... *g*. Not much good on the sporting front for me to report. The
Kiwis got their cricketing revenge and stuffed us good and proper in the one
day series. So it's pretty much business as usual. We've got a couple of
Brits going through to the second week of Wimbledon though, so that's
something.
Now - I probably shouldn't do this but I'm going to *g* - I'm pimping a
new on-line anthology Read
These Lips: Second Helpings which arrives with more stories and an
expanded scope. In this new anthology, incredibly talented writers
explore what it means to be lesbian and, in so doing, add definition to our
lives and loves. Chiefly I'm pimping it because I have a story in it.
But also I'm pimping it because there are some fantastic stories by some
damn' fine writers (we are not worthy!!) in addition to my feeble little
story. So, go - read.
OK - on with the show - just the one tonight.

- The
Empty Heart by Word Warior on Merwolf's Academy of Bards [alt]
Starting just after the events in THE CHILD, THE EMPTY HEART has Xena
emotionally decimated by the loss of little Ilsa and trying to deal also
with the repercussions of a promise she made to a foreign god. Unbeknownst
to the Warrior Princess, the fulfillment of that promise has brought into
her life perhaps the deadliest enemy she has ever known. An enemy willing to
hide in the shadows watching as Xena looses everything and everyone she's
ever cared for.
- Penhale
at Sunrise by K. Alexander on The Athenaeum [alt, original]
I had a very complete and particularly weird little dream one night, and
this is it. As I never really do short stories, "Penhale at
Sunrise" is my equivalent of standing up and going for a brisk walk to
clear the cobwebs of the hefty novels I've been working on.
Wednesday June 25, 2008
Happy official summer! OK, so I'm a couple of days late, but it's my
first chance since the summer solstice to wish you all warm, sunny skies.
Right now I'm busy packing for a working trip. If there's anything to update
tomorrow, it will be me. But, after that, I'm off…on my trip to our
nation's capital for 10 days. That means you get "the Boss" and
the…hey Zero, you got a "b" word to describe you? I have it.
Next week you get the Boss and the Brit!!!!
I just know that if I waited for tomorrow to do this update, there
wouldn't be anything for me to post, but since I did say my "ta-tahs",
I'll probably be back here tomorrow and have to do it all over again.
Wouldn't that just figure?

Happy Fathers' Day
Next..... The Xenaverse is a wonderful thing full of generous people.
Well, there's a Xenite who could use some help. Pat (Windborn/Teresa's
partner) will be undergoing some serious treatment pretty soon that will
require their moving to outpatient housing and at some point Teresa will
have to provide care 24/7. She won't have a salary through this caring
period. There are several ways folks can help out. If you'd like to send a
card or a donation just head on over to The
Academy What's New Page and check the information under June 10th.
And if you can't spare anything yourself - well - remember them in your
prayers.

- Piperton
by Carrie Carr on Merwolf's Academy of Bards (orig/alt/unfinished)
Sam Hendrickson has been travelling around the Southwest for ten years,
never staying in one place long enough to call it home. Doing odd jobs to
pay for her food and gas, she thinks her life is fine, until fate
intervenes. On her way to Dallas to find work for the upcoming winter, her
car breaks down in the small town of Piperton. Sam’s never concerned
herself over what other people think, but the small minds of a West Texas
town may be more than she bargained for – especially when she meet Janie
Clarke. Janie’s always done what’s expected of her. But when she becomes
acquainted with Sam, she’s finally got a reason to rebel.

- Echoes
of the Past (Revised and re-edited) by J M Dragon and Erin O'Reilly on
Merwolf's Academy of Bards (orig/alt/unfinished)
Author's Note: Going back over the original Echoes of the Past and in
particular the characters of Olivia and Parker, we felt that they were not
as fully developed as they should be. Therefore, we reedited the story and,
as with all editing, we added changes not only to the characters but the
storyline as well. We hope you will find this version a satisfying read.
Synopsis: Olivia and Amelia are living together in a platonic relationship
when an old love asks for Olivia's help. Will the old feelings Olivia had
for her first love reemerge or will she stay with Amelia? This fast moving
story has twists and turns and some you won't see coming.

I don't know, Zero. If you're passing the proverbial "football"
to me, it would make more sense to throw the long bomb from England over
here to the Midwest, and not try a handoff (if you don't get it, let me know
and I'll explain how FOOTBALL works!). Actually, I may get stoned for
admitting it, but I prefer soccer to football. It's much more fast paced and
much less trying to tear a head off the other team's players. Hey everyone
out there, if you need something to crunch (gotta keep up with new turns and
old curves), try taking on some of the great stories listed here and, as
always, remember to feed those bards!!!!!!!

Lord, was it hot today. Summer's arrived with a vengence. Won't last of
course. It'll be raining again before the week is out. Tonight's update is a
little odd. It isn't a mistake. Yes the Academy did go from part 5 (as
posted Sunday) to part 7, not stopping at part 6, not passing go and not
collecting 200. Not sure if there is a part 6 or we're following the
rule that there is no rule (part) 6. If there is a part 6 we'll let
you know. *g*. Right, I'm handing over to Ilene now. See you next week end.
Cheers.
Edited to add - yep there is a part 6 and the Academy have added

Hi there. Yes, I admit it. Although I am not a number cruncher or an abs

"sweeties cruncher". And hurray for June. That means the school
year is winding down and it's time to gear up for the summer session, which
is a bit shorter and hopefully not as hectic.
On a sad note, according to a post on the Academyof Bards, AC Henley
